Severnsiders announce new Coaching Changes

With the news Nick Selway is unable to take up his coaching position due to new work commitments the Severnsiders have moved quickly to sign Chris Green as their Director of Rugby who will coach the side for the 2021 season campaign in South West Division One West.

Green was a player with Southend where he was captain in 2010, Rochford and also Essex County. He became Director of Rugby at Southend for six years before taking the same position at Rochford where they won the league two seasons running with the team going unbeaten and promotion to Division 2 south the following season. He has a wealth of coaching qualifications and worked for nine years as head coach at Seevic College.

Green commented’ it’s great to join a real rugby town, really looking forward to getting onto the pitch and meeting the players. The future looks bright at Regentsholme, there is a great blend of experience and youth and I will be looking to ensure we start the season strongly. We have three friendlies arranged in August against Cheltenham Saracens, Dings and Matson who will provide strong opposition giving me a chance to access everyone. It’s great we have some very promising young players at the club who for sure will be pushing for 1st team positions and I will be using all my coaching experience to continue their development. ’

Green will join up with Dave Emery to form a strong coaching set up at Regentsholme. The Severnsiders were unlucky not to be promoted when rugby ceased four games short back in March 2020 and will be strong favourites for promotion when playing resumes.

Chairman Duncan Sleeman commented ‘This new set up with Chris will certainly bring some fresh ideas on the coaching side and his vast experience can help everyone. Clearly our priority is for promotion when the league restarts in September and for the future to get Lydney back into the National leagues’

Club spokesman Roger Pike added ‘we are now back training and will make any new players wishing to join very welcome. It’s great that rugby is back, we are still following the latest Government and RFU guidelines as safety for players and supporters is our top priority. The Clubhouse is now open, and will give a huge lift both physically and mentally for everyone following a tough 18 months.’
