Lydney Vixon’s today welcomed Weston Super Mare Roses, to Lyd. The game took place on the ‘rec’, the good news was the weather stayed dry.

After a couple of early exchanges, Casey Grindle made a good powerful break. The ball was moved around and nicely finished by Emily James, scoring her first ever try in only her 4th ever game. Libby Beddis added the extra’s and her kicking is improving game by game.

More or less from the re-start, the combative Daisy Turner, robbed the ball from the ‘Roses’ and drove straight through the middle of a ruck to score, once again Libby B was accurate with the conversion.

This set the tone for the rest of the game, further tries were scored by Daisy Turner (x6), Libby Beddis (x3), Zea Levy (x2), Molly Brine (x2) and Hannah Kolic. The boot of Libby B added 4 more conversions and Molly Brine 3 more.

The girls turn up to training in good numbers, no matter what the weather is, and it has been very poor weather recently. It was great to see one of Daisy T’s tries coming from a set move, with Hannah Kolic crashing through off a ’21’ call and off loading to Daisy to score.

The ‘Vixons’ were far too strong for the ‘Roses’ in all parts of the game. Overall in tough muddy conditions, the handling was nothing short of superb, the off loading and support play impressive, the girls practice this every week, and this is really starting to show in matches – head coach ‘Hector’ was seen smiling at one point, or though to be honest this could have just been wind!

In the pack, Casey, Ebony and Daisy made powerful run after powerful run, the two Emily’s rucked and supported play superbly, Holly tackled anything that moved and Nieve is improving game on game, supporting play making driving runs and learning to off load as needed.

Behind the scrum, Molly was her normal lively self, supporting every break, as well as darting here there and everywhere from the base of the scrum. Libby and Hannah made break after break, Paige (dropsie), was a girl possessed with her tackling, throwing herself aggressively into every tackle, Heather and Zea were on debut and both made a great start on the rugby field and are certainly welcome additions, Eve got herself involved as much as she could and made a good contribution.

Hannah (admin) James, is now officially exhausted, her water carrying and tee carrying roles have certainly taken their toll! All the coaching team very much enjoy working with all the girls, they are a fab fun bunch who want to learn and progress and are getting better and better match by match. We are certainly expecting a noisy disco bus home on the way back from our up and coming away fixtures!

Final score Vixon’s 98 Roses 0.
