Lydney RFC appoint new Director of Rugby

With Chris Green leaving the Club, Lydney RFC are delighted to announce Sam Arnott who has recently retired from playing, as their new Director of Rugby writes Roger Pike. Arnott is a very popular figure at Regentsholme with both Players and Supporters will bring a wealth of experience to the role. He started at Lydney aged 17 before signing for Gloucester RFC; he then had spells with Southend, Cinderford and Rochford, before ending his career back with the Severnsiders. His rugby career started when attending St Peter’s RC High school in Gloucester but the highlights were representing England at various age group levels.

Arnott commented ‘I’d like to thank Chris Green for the incredible job he’s done in the past 12 months and also coach Dave Emery who is also unfortunately leaving us after five seasons. It’s a huge honour for me to become Director of Rugby at Lydney, to have my first coaching role at such a big Club with a huge rugby history is a big challenge but I am enthusiastic and really looking forward to my new role. Lydney has always been a special club for me and it was a pretty easy decision to make. Rugby is the heart of the town and I will be trying to build a side they can be proud of. Promotion means we will be up against tougher opposition but we have a group of talented players, many are young local lads so hopefully we can start the season strongly. I will be looking to add to the Coaching team and also welcome any new players wishing to join us at Regentsholme to strengthen up both our 1st and 2nd team squads.’

Chairman Duncan Sleeman commented ‘we are delighted to appoint Sam into the role and retain someone with so much experience and enthusiasm. We are sure Sam can build on the success from last season bringing in his own unique style, the Club offer a huge gratitude to Chris Green and Dave Emery who got us promoted last season’
