Lydney RFC announces Reece Boughton as Captain.

Lydney RFC are delighted to announce Reece Boughton will be club captain for the 2026/7 season writes Roger Pike.

Boughton a 30-year-old outside half brings a wealth of experience to not just the coaching setup where he will be backs coach but now also as captain. He has played for Gloucester, Matson, Chinnor, Cinderford and Bridgnorth. Broughton commented ‘it is an honour and a privilege to captain such a famous team as Lydney. The club has produced some famous international names such as Chris Williams, Gordon Sargent, Trevor Wintle and Bev Dovey. The list of top names at the club is endless from historically Ted Parfitt, John and Winston Morris to more recent seasons with Nick Nelmes, Paul Kiley, Sam Arnott and Ben Large. I am thrilled to join such an historic Club with a very enthusiastic Supporter base, I am already enjoying pre-season with a great squad of players.’

Director of Rugby for 2026/7 Paul Morris commented ‘Reece is a proven leader on and off the field and his experience will be invaluable developing our younger players, we are already seeing him drive the standards of the squad forward, He’s exactly the type of player we want leading the club.

Lydney face a tough start to the season with an away fixture at Sidmouth on 12th September, the first home game follows on Saturday 19th against St Austell, then a tough trip to Devon to face Topsham.
