Cirencester 7 Lydney 15’s 31
Lydney maintained their 100% start to the season with a good win away at Cirencester.
The Lydney boys started very slowly and this allowed Cirencester the first score on the ten minute mark. A break straight through the middle of a ruck on the ten metre line allowed them to score under the posts which their flyhalf converted to give them a 7-0 lead.
This was the wake up call the Lydney lads needed. From the kick off they went on the attack. Great running by Ollie Barrett with support coming from Alfie Hewitt and Krystof Carne pushed the Cirencester lads back into their own half, a well worked pod move by the forwards allowed flyhalf Charlie Beddis to crash over from close range to make it 7-5. Charlie converted his own try to level the scores.
The game was starting to open up and Lydney started to secure more ball and went close a few times but the defense held up until Luke Cunliffe managed to score out wide after some good possession from the fowards. The conversion was missed and the halftime whiste was blown. Cirencester 7 – Lydney 12.
Second half started in a similar vein to the first with the Lydney lads moving the ball around nicely and came close to scoring numerous times, it took a forward pod drive and then a good leg drive by number 8 Harvey Heavan to make it 7 – 17. Charlie Beddis converted for a 7 – 19 lead.
With a comfortable lead the Lydney lads started to play more, this resulted in a good try out wide for Jake Dennington. Jake muscled his way over the line after a good move down the right wing. Conversion was missed but Lydney were now starting to fire. 7 – 24.
The last try of the game came from some great forward play. Player of the match Ollie Barrett ran the length of the pitch off a good lineout move only to be dragged down short of the line. The was recycled quickly and moved to the right wing where Jake Dennington again went close. Jake was tackled into touch. the resultiung line out was a mess and the ever present Harvey Heavan scored his second with an opportunist try down the blind side. Charlie Beddis converted for a 7 – 31 lead.
The ref blew the final whistle for the Lydney lads to move to 8 from 8!
Next week sees us travel to Weston Hornets for another tough encounter.
