Planning rejection at LRFC
In response to the Council refusing the building of two dwellings using a small section of the car park at Lydney RFC we would advise the following comments:
The housing proposed is not at risk of flooding, the ground is appreciably higher at this point and existing housing in Regent Street would be at risk first. We would again ask the Council what caused the flood back in March as it has never happened before? What is the Council doing to rectify the situation to avoid any repeat i.e. ensure the Football, Cricket, Tennis and Rugby Clubs plus local housing are protected?
There is no loss of car parking space if the houses are built, with new marking of parking bays we can actually increase available parking by 30%.
Finally with the current Covid situation and ongoing prospects Lydney RFC has no income and the prospects of viability look very bleak. It’s only by grants that the Club is still surviving, these end very soon, we are looking at other innovative revenue streams, like the small housing opportunity, to ensure facilities for the community will exist in the future. We sincerely hope the Council and Planners will revisit their decision.
